Project 6 - Zimbabwe

Shift Organic Technologies is an organization in Zimbabwe who's mission is to facilitate and educate communities on how to establish their own climate smart integrated organic farming systems. Founded by Clive, a local leader and innovator who grew up in rural Zimbabwe, Shift Organic Technologies is dedicated to empowering rural communities across the country. Believing that adaptation away from traditional farming methods is key to addressing Zimbabwe’s climate-related challenges, Clive developed several innovative techniques that conserve water while protecting livelihoods and sustaining businesses.

Since its inception, Women in Agriculture Union (W.A.U.) has been at the forefront of empowering women by providing them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to take ownership of the vital role they play in the agriculture sector. With agriculture being the backbone of Zimbabwe’s economy and women making up roughly 67% of that workforce, W.A.U's efforts are pivotal in ensuring national food security and economic resurgence for the country.

We’re proud to stand alongside Shift Organic Technologies and W.A.U. supporting their mission to turn local action into global impact.

Rather than providing only a short-term, material impact, TMF chose to invest in the tools and education needed to repair and refurbish several farming systems at two orphanages. Additionally, in partnership with the Women in Agriculture Union, we hosted a series of workshops for orphanage staff and female farmers, equipping them with the skills necessary to operate and maintain these systems independently.

Each woman received a starter kit containing all the essential materials to sustainably produce her own organic compost. We were also able to sponsor a new drip irrigation system for Blossom, one of the women who participated in the workshop. Blossom has committed to reinvesting 30% of her profits to help build the same system for another woman farming in her community. This cycle will continue until every woman in the workshop has a fully outfitted drip irrigation system.

By transforming immediate support into a self-renewing model, this initiative ensures an impact that will continue to grow over time.
